Raziel's cleansing at the end of Defiance meant Kain could clearly see the Elder God, finally, and give a face to one of the forces he was already trying to defy.Literature Chronicles of Narnia (I personally like to think he experienced many failures in his efforts, and what we see is the one successful timeline he's managed so far, but that's headcanon territory.) Kain was working off of whatever he saw in the Chronoplast, planning his actions around the effects he witnessed, and the new memories his actions planted into his mind.
Raziel knew, to some extent, that the Elder God was manipulating him as well (more so as the story progressed than at the beginning), but when faced with two wanna-be puppetmasters, why would he give them more ammunition that can be used to manipulate him?Īdditionally, while I don't believe Kain knew of the Elder God before Raziel's cleansing allowed him to see the creature, he was clearly aware that something was orchestrating the fate he was trying to defy that he was opposing some force, even if he didn't know exactly what it was. For much of the Soul Reaver games, Raziel didn't trust Kain, and why would he? He was filled with rage and hurt for the betrayal from being cast into the Abyss, and the Elder God played on that.
